Philosophy at Between The Trees
The PHILOS area is a tribute to Phil Wyman, a dear festival friend who contributed massively to the creation of Between The Trees. It’s beautiful how the PHILOS area has become a space dedicated to the values he loved: thinking, sharing, and community. The connection between philos (friend/love) and sophia (wisdom) really reflects the essence of what a community built on philosophical inquiry should be about—people coming together to explore, question, and learn from one another.
Talks, sharing and debates happen here driven by questions generated by the extraordinary Philosophy Machine. It’s a perfect way to dive deep into those Big Questions—the questions that challenge our thinking and spark conversations about life, purpose, and knowledge. This space is an intellectual haven for all who participate. Which “Big Question” would you like to discuss?
The Open Mic
The open mic is your chance to shine and share your creative songwriting with other festival goers. There are two, 2 hour Open Mic Sessions on Saturday and Sunday Morning. We also have a “Best of open mic” performance session which is scheduled to be on our third stage, the Seren Barn, on Sunday afternoon. Several selected Open Mic performers will have the opportunity to play a song or two to a wider audience.
The Open Choir “singing between the trees”
The Open Choir has been a regular feature on Between The Trees for many years. Here Linda and Martin will teach you the 3 part harmonies to several specially selected songs which you will then perform to the whole festival in the main festival arena. Many friendships have been forged in the “sing happy” choir and the performances just become more wonderful every year.
Music Workshops and Performances
New for 2025, we have music and songwriting workshops delivered by Chris of Filkin’s Drift. We also have intimate performances from Nigel Mason, who will take you on a musical journey, exploring the use of various wind instruments through the ages.
